The Leilagio Art Scholarship is awarded to an art student with preference for one who demonstrates entrepreneurship.

This is an annual scholarship which expends the funds available each year. The 2012-2013 recipient will recieve a total of $1,000 at a rate of $500 per semester.

The William Paterson University Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Qurra-tul-Ayn has once again been selected to be the Leilagio Art Scholar for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Qurra, now a senior, is an Art major from Orange, NJ. As an artist, she is active with the University Galleries' Cross-Cultural Art Organization. She is also an excellent student, making the Dean's List every semester. Her plan after graduation is to become a graphic designer.

Below is her letter of thanks to the Leilagio Art Scholarship.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Pagliarulo,

I can't thank you enough for your beyond generous contribution to my education. I recetly came across an article on you and your business on the internet and thought, "Wow, what an inspiration!" Truly, it is extremely gratifying to see a success story that's so close to home. It motivates me to keep pushing for my own success story with the foundation of knowing that achievement is possible. As a fellow artist, I admire your perseverance in the field, especialy due to the circulating notion that art is a hard subject to make it in. I believe that hard work does pay off as is evident by the position you're in to graciously present me with this award.

Upon first entering William Paterson University, I guess you could say that I had given into the perception of the "unsuccessful" artist because I came in as an undeclared freshman. Although I had just come from an arts high school, I had a fear of making the wrong decision to pursue that same path in college. By the time sophomore year came around, I could no longer ignore my passion and art again is where I ended up. Deciding that I wouldn't let the fear of failure keep me from doing what I wanted to do was, and I think always will be, one of the best decisions I ever made. Though I was initially into the Fine Arts, I now focus on Graphic Design.

However, I recognize that one doesn't exist without the other. I feel that as an artist, specifically a graphic designer, I am combating that conception that which art is a difficult field to make it in. Be that as it may, it is supporters like you that keep me going in antcipation of one day staring success in the face. Besides, there is a demand for creative design in the market, even if the economic would doesn't realize it. As a result of me sticking with what I do best, one of my many outstanding professors reccomended me to William Paterson University's Marketing and Public Relations Department, for whom I now work as a member of the web design team.

This was a huge step for me as a senior because I am tht much closer to the real world and unfortunately slightly further away from financial aid. That is why i very much appreciate this continued aid from you; it really does mean a great deal. I will be sure not to overlook future students who will be in need of support. I wil always be thankful for those who cared enough to positively impact the lives of others. i wish you both continued success.

Again, many thanks!

Sincerely,

Qurra-tul-Ayn
